As per the title, the iPhone belongs to a friend who reported it missing (not stolen) quite a few months ago, she has since gone back to using a normal phone for a while but 2 weeks ago found it wedged down the back seat in her mom's car.

Obviously at the time she was on O2 but now is on Orange so asked me if she could use it on that, I said yes.

I jailbroke it with redsn0w 0.8 then installed ultrasn0w via cydia but it won't show any signal and is still asking for activation, is this normal, I thought when the phone was jailbroken it was also activated.

If you say dismiss to the activation and then go into network selection and let it search for carriers, it finds them all but when I select Orange instead of leaving it on Auto it then says Restricted Network.

It's running O/S 3.0.1, I've restored the O/S twice and gone through the jailbrake and unlock twice but it's still the same, what if anything am I doing wrong. :(

Thanks

Dave

Dismiss the activation? Redsn0w should hacktivate it. If orange's 3G signal isn't compatible, I would try turning it off, and rebooting the phone. Maybe Orange needs to authenticate the iPhone's IMEI on their network before it works. Have you tried asking them?

Thanks for the reply, have turned off 3G and powered off the phone, when powered back on it comes up with a box that says :-

Restricted Network
Your selected cellular network is
restricted. You can choose a
different network in Settings.

Seems like ultrasn0w is not unlocking the phone !

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Dave

After using the slider to unlock the phone it still says waiting for activation, also tried a 3 sim and get the same thing

Like I said, have you tried to call and ask Orange customer service? T-Mobile for example is very nice with people that have iPhones. :)

Can you elaborate a bit on the IMEI issue Jmann? I have a thread going about this same issue and I find a bit odd that a phone would need to be authenticated on any network. I travel quite a bit around the globe and have never had an issue with phones needing to be authenticated?

TIA! /Fred

I unlocked my iPhone 3G I purchased last week to orange with ultrasnow and only put my sim in once ultrasn0w was installed and was ready to reboot iPhone and it unlocked first time so maybe just have a go at doing a clean restore to 3.01 and rejailbreak and unlock?

Your friend must of reported the Iphone missing to O2, if she has then they would of blocked it, so she will not be able to use any network in this country as they have input her missing iphone on the insurance database of stolen phones. An idea is if she contacts O2 and says she has now found her phone and see if they can unlock it. If they can they you can jail break it for her to use on any network. So for now it won't work. Sorry to be a dissapointment.

Like mentioned above sounds like its blacklisted.
Try getting her to contact 02 so they can remove the block or sell it to someone in another country where the 02's blacklis doesnt matter.
Or just use it as an ipod Touch.
