Hi,

I've noticed ever since upgrading to 3.x on my Dad's iPhone, everything is just slower than before, apps crash more and RAM usage is very high. It is a jailbroken iPhone, but I have tried it on a fresh restore and it feels the same. The battery life has degraded severely as when the battery goes to 10%, and I put it on charge, it jumps to 20% within minutes. Out of all the iPhone 3G's I've used, this one certainly has some issues even on a fresh restore. My friend's iPhone 3G was also slow like this, even a fresh restore had loads of issues.

Now, today we were supposed to go to the Apple Store, but the snowy/icy conditions didn't allow us, and today is the day his AppleCare runs out :( If I take it to the Apple Store, will they charge for a replacement? As this is clearly a hardware issue and not a software issue.

Thanks
Mo'

It might be a hardware issue, buy os 3.x.x wasnt really designed to run on the 3G more the 3GS. So a lot of people have this issue with the software.

If your dad's Apple Care has run out, they won't replace it for free.

As for you battery problem...if your dad has had the phone for two years, the battery is probably on its last legs. Time for a replacement.

As for your RAM issues, if you've got a lot running on a 3G you will have those problems. The 3G simply doesn't have enough RAM.

Give AppleCare a call and explain the situation. They should be able to give you a case number that you can use when you are able to go to the Apple Store.
