Hello,
I am sorry if this question has been answered already, I could not find a proper answer elsewhere!
I have a o2 uk pay and go iphone. It came with its own simcard, with an 1 year unlimited web bolt-on.
I travel a lot abroad and I need to unlock it for obvious reasons. Unfortunately I have accidentally updated through itunes to 3.1.2 and can't unlock it at the moment.
I was thinking to return it (I am in the 14 days period), to get a 3gs, and unlock it before updating. But before I do this bold move, I need to know something:
If I unlock my iphone, in the UK I can still use the ORIGINAL o2 pay and go simcard that is provided with the iphone? Will it work 100% and will I still be able to use the unlimited web bolt on?
Many thanks!

I would say it's not worth even returning it as all new stock will by now have the latest baseband on which is unlockable.

If your that desperate for an unlocked handset return the iPhone and get something else or purchase an unlocked one that you will pay a premium for.

Thanks for the answer... this is what I don't understand from all the information there is on the internet... the new baseband is: NOT UNLOCKABLE or only not YET unlockable?

NOT YET UNLOCKABLE is the right answer - give it time, everything can be cracked.

I am waiting until Nov / Jan when Orange & Vodafone are also selling the iPhone in the UK - Hopefully then I can get my 3G & my 3GS both 'Carrier Unlocked' at the same time.....

There is A LOT of OfCom interest in the iPhone at the moment. The only reason there is no Carrier Unlock at the moment is because of the existing exclusivity contract O2 have with Apple - watch this forum when that runs out!!!

that's comforting! I also heard about the Orange and Vodafone deal ... I am a bit in a rush though, as I will be more than 1 month away from the UK and I'll need mobile web abroad.
Anyhow, does someone have a first hand experience with unlocking a pay and go O2 iphone and using the original sim, with the unlimited web bolt on? Is that working allrite?
Thanks for the answers so far!

Yeah, works fine. Although I'm not unlocked anymore since I have no need, but I'm keeping the possibility open for when I want more internets (£10 just for internet is too much).
