Hey guys, I am switching to AT&T from Verizon soon, and I was wondering whats the main difference between the 3G and the 3G S? Also, Refurb or new? I was looking at the 16GB 3G Refurb... tips, trick, pros, cons, etc. I want to hear it. Thanks!

dont get either right now. wait till summer, theyre supposed to release the next iphone, which is rumored to have atleast a 5 megapixel camera, video chat, 2 cameras, a removable battery, iphone os 4.0, and many other features.

Neither, wait until summer.

P.S. OS 3.0 makes the 3g a bad phone. If you can find a refurb 3g that is still running iphone OS 2, that would be a good deal, but such a find would be unlikely.

Still, wait until summer.

Removable battery LOL that will never happen and video chat is pretty useless. If you need now get the 3GS now, it is a very good phone and will support iPhone OS 4.0 too. It is still almost in the middle of the lifespan and if you want the new one very badly you can always sell it for a good money. Second hand iPhones go for a very good price.

While it's true that all of those things have been rumored, they're not all equally likely ;)

For example:
OS 4.0: almost definitely.
Better camera: probably
Removable battery: almost definitely not.
Two cameras: would be cool, but then again we all expected a camera on the iPad too...

I think these guys have the best take on what life would be like if every rumor were true:

No because he would have to sign a 2 year contract with AT & T

He would. This doesn't preclude him from buying another iPhone until his contract is up; it just means he won't be eligible for the fully subsidized price, and that's assuming that the contract pricing for the next iPhone even works the same way that it does now (which, historically, has not exactly been the case). And as Cask pointed out, he could quite likely sell the 3GS and make enough money to buy even an only partially-subsidized next-gen iPhone.

I have a 3G; other family members have the 3GS. The 3GS wipes the floor with the 3G. If you have to buy now, definitely go 3GS. But a new model is expected in the July timeframe, so it might be worth waiting depending on your circumstances.

A 3G iPhone will cost you less money than a 3GS iPhone. But the 3G doesn't record video natively, there are apps that allow it to do this though. I got the QIK Video app for $.99, guess it now cost $1.99. Either way the app records video great. The biggest difference though is that the 3GS has a faster processor and you can get up to 32GB of memory. If you are in no hurry, as others have already said, I would wait to see what Apple is planning to release. And if the iPhone gets picked up by Verizon that would be the best reason to wait.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

No question get the 3gs. The Difference in price is only $100, even less of you go for refurb. That's like a little more than the cost of one month's service. If you can afford to buy AT&T service, you can afford the 3gs over the 3g. And it definitely smokes the 3g in every way.
