What is other memory? I used to have over 800 mb of other memory did a restore and it went to 200mb and now its up to 571 mb of other memory

Do I constantly need to restore my iphone?? The entire process takes about 4 hours.

Thanks

do you have a 2g or 3g?

is it running 2.0 or 2.1?

if you updated it it might be the apps?

I have an iPhone 3g with 2.1 firmware. I have thirteen or so apps installed. Does anybody else have this problem?

Thanks

i'm pretty sure 'other' is contacts and maybe some other stuff???

idk y it would change that much assuming you put the same contacts back on the phone.

other than that i have no idea.

hope this helps

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what it is...

how much other memory do you have when you sync your iphone?

Thanks again.

Hi, Polarbebe!

Don't worry. Look at the total of your "Apps + Other". They should stay pretty consistent, but the balance between them changes quite frequently - especially if you have a lot of applications. What's going on in 2.1 is that it has a bug where it sometimes misidentifies some Apps as Other. Each time you update, install, or delete an App (or sometimes, just unplug and re-plug your iPhone), you'll see this results in changing numbers.

For example, my phone's running near the limit for installed applications, and the proper totals are 1.16 GB of Apps, and 335 MB of Other. In a single day, I'll see those totals radically change individually, like to 150 MB for Apps and 1.35 GB of Other, or other odd combinations which yield the same total storage.

This constant flipping is confusing, but it's just the totals on iTunes' iPhone Summary page that are buggy. Look at the total for Apps + Other, and you'll see that things are in fact just fine.

Cheers!
Mark

Overloaded with "Other"

I have an 8gig 3G (un-jailbroken). Before the latest OS update I had the same thing on my phone (13 apps, 200 contacts, 200 songs, google calendar synced, etc). I only used 3 gigs at the most. I just synced my phone last night an now I have 4.3 gigs of Other memory, and the total memory used is now 7.4gigs. How is it that I've used up more total memory without doing anything (I may have added a contact or two, but no new music, videos, apps, etc)? Also, how can I fix this? Also I never updated to the last Itunes (I have the 2nd to latest version). Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.
