Sometimes when I power on my iPhone 3G, I get this "Please Connect To iTunes" screen (black screen shows the iTunes logo and the connector cable). Then if I power it off and then turn it back on, it'll boot into the home screen with the message "iPhone Activated" and everything work normal. I've had this incident twice and only had this iPhone 3G for about a week.

Anybody experienced this? Thanks!

Take it back! Unfortunately it looks like you just got a rotten :apple:, which happens on occasion, with any product (defects are almost guaranteed on mass produced products). I would set up an appointment at an Apple store.

How am I gonna recreate this problem to them, it just randomly happened twice within a week? I just talked to tech support over the phone, he said sounds like a software issue (maybe corrupted) and told me try restoring the iphone.

I did a hard reset, follow by a full restore. Didn't restore from any backup, just set it up as a new iPhone. It's been almost a week, issue haven't occur since.

I had the exact same thing happen to me twice in a week. In conjunction with a couple of OS crashes requiring a hard reset I eventually had the phone replaced at an Apple store. I really don't know if this is software or hardware but I suspect it is the former. Perhaps it is even related to the Sim Card.

Full restore didn't help either?

I had already done a full restore previously when I had encountered an OS crash so I did not really want to do it again if I could avoid it. So a full restore may well solve your problem.

I never had this problem with 2.02 or 2.1 and seemingly, if I recall correctly a thread on howardforums, it seemed to occur more frequently to people after 2.2.

That happened to me a few times with my iPhone (famous original flavor). I never figured out why it was doing that, but it was a total pain...I never called Apple because it was out of warranty anyway by then. But give them a shot!

Just so you know, on my new/refurbished phone of about 3 or so weeks I just received the same "connect to Itunes" screen which I had not received before on this particular phone. Nothing dramatic was happening at the time. I had simply recharged the phone fully and then shut it down (which I normally do after a recharge) and restarted it.

Upon receiving the message, I simply shut it down again and restarted and seemingly it is fine. Is it my Sim Card (a 4000 series one which should NOT be a problem) or is it something with my provider Rogers? I really do not know and as long as this does not occur too often I won't get too agitated.

I have had this happen twice since mid November. I have read about it in numerous forums all over. No one has an answer. Nearly all say 'get a new one'. It's hard for me to believe that it's not related to something in 2.2. That seems to be when most have had it happen. It's not a big deal since it goes away after restarting again. Hopefully, it doesn't get worse. We don't have an Apple store anywhere near us.

I have also received this massage several time on my iPhone 3G. But….! These massage first started appearing on my iPhone short after the firmware update to 2.2.

Though I could resolve the problem by turning the iPhone off and back on again it turn on my several days later when I wasn’t able to do this either (said I had to connect to iTunes and there nothing happened to!). The only way I was able to get it working again was to go in Recover Mode and make a restore.

This was the thread the helped me resolve the problem on Apple forums:

It has been almost a month now and I thing I’m in the clear now…. ? :p

I have the exact same problem, even after a restore. It happens occasionally, and I don’t know under what condition triggers it. I am using Fido service in Canada. Is there an iPhone engineer here can explain to us how and why it happens?

Is it worth the effort to replace the iPhone from Apple store? Will they give you a brand new or refurbished one?

I think Apple will give you a new iPhone and use the parts from your old one to make refurbished iPhones. However, if you have an iPhone 2G, they will replace it with an iPhone 2G not an iPhone 3G. If you have tried a restore then I would take it into an Apple Store.

Oh dear. Had my phone since 14th July and had no probs apart from it froze once. Updated to 2.2.1 at the weekend and this has just happened to me. Came back on when I connected it to itunes. So does sound more like a software problem then?
