this is my first post so hi all,
i got an iphone on the 11th and my friend bought one on friday the 25th
we both use googlemail with push activated and fetch on 15m but after alot of tests,he gets mail in a 2 minutes maximum..i get it every 15mins,my iphone works fine except for this, any help hugely appreciated thanks

hi, welcome :)

gmail does not support push at all. both must be set to pull (or fetch)
2 minutes maximum is still not push, push is instant!

maybe he has set his up to forward to an account that supports push, or they are set to check at different times
eg, you send a test email at 11 am
iphone 1 is set to check at 11.02
iphone 2 is set to check at 11.15

Hey,thanks for the response,hmm maybe
both the phones are on fetch on googlemail, then fetch is set to 15m 'settings'
i did a few tests but if you're sure 15m is the fastest for googlemail then maybe you're right.
Do you know if its possible to use mobileme for instant push, but use my googlemail.com address? thanks :)

there are 3 things you could do to get push gmail...
1) use mobileme and pay for it: look here
2) use exchange for free here
3) forward all email to yahoo mail, which supports push, also for free

one more thing,so if i put push on and fetch to manual (with gmail forwarding from exchange) ill only got one mail per email as long as i dont check googlemail.com acc inbox on mail app, correct?

yes, but you could alternatively remove the gmail account from your iphone altogether

The "push" option is very misleading on the iPhone...if you do not have push support (aka Gmail) the push option will do nothing.

I recommend Mail2Web...

Push email

I believe the exchange link listed above was sent to mail2web's site and they now charge 4.95/mo.

Yahoo mail works great, test emails were recieved within less than a minute with a vibrate alert while phone was on silent and the vibrate was also felt when the phone was locked.
