Hey guys, I'm new on this board, I bought a Iphone 3g in July, today my screen cracked, since the screen is a "hardware" does that cover under the 1 year warranty?

Yeah, I made an apointment at the apple store online tommorow, I'll keep you guys updated on the whole situation, also between 4-5pm I have no classe so I will stop by AT&T aswell and talk to my friend who works in the support dept.

Well ATT reffered me to third party phone store and the guy told me that if he orders the screen and replaces it, it was going to cost me about 200-250 bucks, I went to the apple store and asked the guys at the genius bar and they told me they cant fix it, and I have to buy a new one for 200 bucks, so I thought about it and I took that route.

Sorry to hear about it. I'm happy to hear they sold you one at the contract price and not at the outright buyout price though, that's reassuring I hope it works like that in canada too :) Hold on to your iphone maybe cheaper glass will come out.. or maybe check ebay they have kits for the first gen... maybe you can mickey mouse something...

I just cracked mine as well like 2 hours ago. So having the same case as yours, I should pay $240 to get a new one?

Doesn't AT&T offer any sort of insurance?

O2 in the UK offers it as an extra £7.50 a month ($15) and covers (with an excess fee of £25 for each claim):

- Theft
- Loss
- Accidental Damage (including water damage)
- Worldwide cover - including free international delivery
- Guaranteed new replacement
- Accessory cover up to £200

Something I'm definitely going to take out when I finally dive in and get an iPhone. Last thing I want to do is end up cracking the screen, or dropping it in a puddle and having to splash out on a new one.

AT&T doesn't offer insurance on any smartphones, unfortunately.

I just went to the AT&T store and they asked $299 to replace the screen which is the same as buying new, so I asked them if I can get the 8GB and they said they could. So now I am listing my cracked screen 16GB Iphone on ebay, and so far it's $200 :)
