Hi, I have had my 3g since aug 08 so is out of warranty (didn't get apple care). I use the silence switch often when going in/out of class. Recently the switch will turn to silent but constantly comes in and out of silence. The phone keeps vibrating and the icon on the screen flashing on and off. This can be achieved by even Just touching the switch. This does not happen when silent mode is turned off. Now I know I have no warranty but can this be easily and cheaply fixed?? anyone had the same issue?

Switch could be worn or just have dirty contacts.

Does the switch still have it's 'click' ? (bad sign if it doesn't)

Sometimes dirty contacts can be cleaned somewhat just by a few rapid on/off movements, especially true of 'wiping' contacts, but I'm not sure about what type of switch the iPhone uses. Sometimes contact cleaner aerosol can be blasted into the switch effectively, especially a non-sealed switch, but again I'm not sure about the switch's specs.

Any of these are worth a go though and shouldn't cause any damage.

If no luck, probably a new switch.
