Hey just wondering if anyone else is finding the keyboard app on the iPhone 3G (or iPhone 2.0) a bit sluggish?

The keyboard works great in Safari and is very responsive but in the SMS app the keyboard seems to be noticeably more 'laggy' on my iPhone.

Same issue here

Glad I'm not the only one! Perhaps if it's a common problem it'll be fixed in the next firmware update.

In the meantime I've discovered that turning off 3G seems to solve the problem. Very strange.

I'm having the same problem on my first gen iPhone on EDGE. i'm sure we'll have an update within the next week or two to fix the "bugs" in the 2.0 firmware.

I guess all we can do is hope that 2.0.1 comes out sooner rather than later

Yep, I have SERIOUS problems with my keyboard on my iPhone 3g... certain keys won't even respond (e.g. "P" and backspace) and other times the keyboard complete goes whack-o... I press "O" and "I" fires, etc.

The same is happening for me. it usually happens worst when i move to sms after loading a bunch of apps. I am assuming that, while apple doesn't allow apps to run in the background, they still run for a short period after you close them and steal cpu power.

Agreed. I have a 1st gen iPhone that has been incredibly sluggish (esp. keyboard and contacts, but other apps as well) since the 2.0 upgrade. Still over 2 gigs free, so that's not the problem.

I expect that those with sluggish iPhones are running firmware 5A345 and not the later build, 5A347. If so, I suggest you upgrade and I think you will find that your problem is cured.

This was suggested by someone else and it works. Press the HOME button and then open SMS back up. It fixes it for me.

The iPhone 3G won't recognise the newer build firmware 5A347 unless you do a full Restore in iTunes but you'll lose everything on you're phone so back it up first.
