But i must of done something wrong because now the iphone wont make a noise when a get a text message, or when i type on the keyboard or press the sleep/wake button, the phone isnt on silent i tried flipping the switch several times. Can anyone please help me out?

Tri Tone Won't Work

Hey, same situation with my friend's. I've come on here to find some solutions but nothing yet.

All of her text message sounds work when they are being recieved, except for the Tri-Tone sound. When a text is sent with the Tri-Tone sound on, it just vibrates.

If this matters, yesterday her home screen wouldn't come on, and she had to restore the entire thing for it to work. Kind of sucks, she's a new user (i've had mine for a while) and she has been very let down by the transition. Let me know what you guys think.

Had an issue yesterday where I had no sound when locking and unlocking phone. The phone froze a little later and I just held the home and sleep button and it rebooted. My suggestion to you is to reboot the phone.

From my experience, the phone will not make a sound if you are doing something on it, like browsing or reading other text.

nope a reset didnt do anything :(

Slam it against the wall a few times..... Should do the trick!!

Sorry..... usually re-boot cures all. I have noticed that my 1st gen has been acting up a little since the 2.0 upgrade. When I go to use one of my new apps the phone crashes and re-boots itself. Only happened a few times but oh well.... My wife is taking possesion of that phone so I can get 3G. I'll let her worry about it!!!:D :D

Yeah same here, no matter what it will not make a noise when i get a text, it just vibrates.

oh well I guess I'll just have to wait until iPhone firmware 2.1 or 2.0.1 or whatever it's gonna be and hopefully that will fix this.

Mine was doing the same thing all day (I just purchased it this morning). I restored and rebooted several times to no avail.

Finally, I restored but didn't choose to restore from a backup (I had previously owned an iPod Touch) and selected to set this iPhone up as a "new phone" (or whatever the message says).

Viola! Works fine... for now at least! :)

fixed the sound problem

i had the same problem and tried the restore and all other ideas. I fixed it immediately when i found out i had a mute button. on the top left side of the iphone 3g, there is a small switch that is the mute button. mine was down, once i flipped it up or slid the on/off button up, my sounds were all back instantly.

Same Text tone problem

I have had recently the same problem with my new 3G. After a reboot it will make like one text message sound, and then poof! back to just vibrating. I've got all the settings right but still just vibrates. Anyone fix this issue?:
