Well, I waited my year. Went out and bought the iPhone when 3G was released. So far I'm just super pleased and don't seem (yet) to be experiencing many of the problems some other users list.

But I do have one problem. The speaker phone is TERRIBLE. If I'm in my quiet office at my desk-- it's perfect. But that's not when I need it. If I'm driving... or outside... forget it. I literally cannot hear or make-out the conversation.

Does anyone know if this is common (I've done a search) or if there are any 3rd party apps that amplify the speaker phone?

One thing that I find pretty interesting/odd is that if I play a youtube video the sound is MUCH louder. It's specifically when I"m in speaker phone mode.

Speakerphones in general are terrible, it's a limitation of the technology being pushed into such a small space. The iPhone's is better than most, believe me ;)

It is a TON better than the speakerphone on my old RAZR I had before it. I haven't had any issues.

Okay. So obviously there's something wrong with mine.

I'm not new to cell phones or speaker phones. You name a popular phone and I've probably owned it. And this is the WORST speaker phone experience I've ever had.

Time to visit the Apple store I suppose.

I would say so.

The AUX port on my car stereo is broken, so I've been using the iPhone speakers to play music. Not impressive compared to a car speakers, but definitely better than other phones I've used.

I'll have to agree that this speakerphone is awesome. Works well for me while im in the car as long as I have my windows up as with most speaker phones.
