Okay here is the problem and I tried searching around to fix this issue. I have a 3G iPhone and when I am making calls and want to switch to speaker phone because I am driving, my iPhone drops the call automatically. As i watch to see what was going on. When I repeated the process and clicked on the speaker phone icon, the reception bar drops to ZERO and the call that I made is lost. I am sure it is not the person I am trying to call because I tried this several times calling my voice mailbox. Please help guys I dunno what to do and I can't return the phone.

Hello! Have you tried resetting all settings on the iPhone/ reset network settings? Do you have the latest firmware? Have you tried a restore? You may have to backup your iPhone and restore.

I did all of that. And I am still running into the same problem I am rocking the 2.2.1 software. Please help....

I have the exact same problem as you do. Except my phone also does this when I try to use my bluetooth headset with my iPhone. If I make a call then try to switch to speaker phone I loose all bars and I get a message that says "Call Failed". When I have my bluetooth headset turned on and I try to make a call the phone attempts to make the call but then I loose all signal bars and I get the call failed message again. I can use the iPhone normally to make and receive calls just not with the speaker phone or bluetooth.

I have tried the software restore and I have tried turning off 3G, still not working. Fortunately my iPhone is still under warranty so I have an appointment this Saturday to try and get it exchanged for a new one at my local Apple Store :apple::apple::apple:

Has anyone figured out why using the speakerphone or bluetooth headset results in "call failed"? Please let me know.

I got my phone replaced by Apple. The genius at the genius bar stated that he had never seen anything like it before. And he immediately replaced my phone with a new one. So there is definitely something broken with the hardware when this happens. Because there is no way to fix it with software.

You should make an appointment and take your phone to the Apple store immediatley.
