Hi,

I have a problem with my iPhone 3G.

It stops responding at least once a day.

The first day I had the iPhone on my table when I went to unlock it none of the buttons would respond and the screen remained blank. I got some texts and the phone vibrated but nothing else. It was still blank. I ended up having to restore the phone to get it working again.

The second day the phone again stopped responding. This time I connected it to iTunes and it was fine again (no need to restore).

Now today the third day the iPhone once again stopped responding. This time I got a text and it started working again. Then an hour later it stopped working then once I connected it to iTunes it was fine...

Whats going on?

I have the latest update also I haven't jailbroken or unlocked the phone and it is around 2-3months old. Also its not a battery issue as all four times I had 1/2+ battery life.

I'm thinking about taking it to an Apple store.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

UPDATE:
Ending up taking the iPhone to the Regents street Apple store and they gave me new one :D

Taking it to the Apple store is the right move. Unfortunately some geniuses will refuse any sort of warranty service unless you can replicate the problem for them.

Quite simply, the iPhone software is still buggy, and not as polished as we or Apple would like it to be. My iPhone locks up and freezes on me randomly too, mostly using 3rd party apps though. If the problem persists, I'd definitely take it to an Apple store to see what they say, be prepared for a disappointing response though.

Thanks for the replies.

Im at Uni most days and that's not too far from the Apple store on regents street. If it happens again ill take it to them while its frozen.

Just a piece of London-centric advice, if you want a chance of being seen on the day you go, I highly highly recommend going to the new Apple store in Westfield, I dunno how much further it'll be in traveling, but my few experiences with the staff there have been more pleasant, and because they aren't so busy being the 'flagship' store, they seem to have a bit more time for you. I hope its still the same as I have a genius bar appointment there for my macbook soon.

The store in westfield is all the way on the other side of London for me :(

Last time I went to the regent street store was when the volume button of my iPhone 3G fell out. I made an appointment through the Apple website and when I got there they gave me a new phone :D

No problems with the iPhone today so maybe the issue has gone. Lets hope :)

Cool, well obviously I hope your iPhone stays problem-free. All I meant about Westfield vs. Regent Street was that the staff didn't seem so rushed off their feet and as if they could give you the time I kind of expect from the whole 'Apple experience'. However, I have had many successful results from the staff at regents street, mostly the actual geniuses as opposed to the queue-controllers, who I've found to be a bit rude and ignorant of me because I'm a teenager as opposed to the idiotic business people all around.

Ok, I'm really sorry for my weird venting and taking your thread off-track, best of luck with your iPhone.

UPDATE:

Well yesterday half way through the day my iPhone went blank again... I was at Uni so logged onto a PC and made an appointment for the Apple store at regents street. My appointment was for 5:20pm I got there around 5:15 and was seen at 5:40... Wasn't too happy about the wait considering I had an appointment and the queue like you say was very long lol.

Anyway I explained the problem I was having with my iPhone (it was still blank at this point) the Apple Genius connected the iPhone to his Mac and it started working. I went on to explain that this happens to me everyday. After the guy messed around with it for a minute or two he said well were going to have to give you a new iPhone. That suited me just fine.

Then the Apple Genius started filling out the paper work and said is this your second iPhone replacement now? I thought to myself oh no they don't limit one replacement per person do they? I told him my first iPhones volume button fell out so Apple gave me a new one and now this new one keeps going blank. That wasn't a problem as they still gave me a new one :)

So I am on my third iPhone now in just as many months I think lol.

Thank you Apple 10/10 :D

Well that depends really.

If it still has warranty then restore the iPhone using iTunes this will as far as I know un-jailbreak the iPhone. Then take it to your local apple store :)
