My iPhone 3G takes about 5 hours to back-up. I've tried getting rid of old back-ups, but that hasn't worked. Anyone have any suggestions?

Should be much faster. Maybe restore via itunes and use your backup. If that fails, start as new.

I'd like to avoid doing that, as starting as new would also wipe all my apps and their info...correct?

Right click on you iPhone under Devices
Click Reset Warnings
When the thing pops up and says something like 'Your iPhone contains diagnostic info that can help Apple' uncheck 'don't ask me again' click DO NOT SEND
do this every time

my iPhone 3G backs up in under ten minutes after this.

Seems to have worked like a charm! Thanks! I would have been so sad if my iPhone4 took 5 hours to back up...
