I have an iPhone 3G, jailbroken with the 3.0.1 firmware. I've been doing some research on how to record video with it, but all I've come up with is "Get a 3G S" and "Get this app from Cydia". I'm definitely not going to get a 3G S, and the apps from Cydia are so-so. I'm wondering if there is a way to make the Camera app think that it's a 3G S, and bring out the Video Recording feature right there? I know that the 3G doesn't have that great of a camera but I can live with it

Isn't there an app on Cydia called "Cycorder" ? ;) Why don't you like Cydia?

Unless you ready to build your own custom firmware for the 3G to make it record video in the camera app then...

Also, autofocus is done with certain hardware, not in the 3G, correct?

There is a hardware difference between the 2G/3G camera and the 3GS camera. Akin to wishing a digital zoom was an optical zoom.

The two Vid Camera apps are doing the best job they can with the limited hardware available.

They are your best and only solutions.

Cant go wrong with Cycorder. It isn't perfect, but in decent light conditions it gets the job done. And if its jailbreaking your afraid of, it really isn't that big of a deal. You don't even loose your texts!
