I had the exact same problem when I first got my iPhone.
The answer? My SIM card was of an older generation; specifically, the 9th through 12th numbers on the card should be 4000 in order for the phone to correctly display a voicemail indicator.

Go into AT&T and purchase a new SIM card (I'm not sure how much they are in the States, but they're $35 here in Canada), and process that SIM card onto your account.

That's what I did and it fixed my phone :)

Thanks

Thanks alot thats strange that it costs you 35 bucks in canada even though you live in canada it should be free like it is here in the US. But again Thanks alot.

If there is something wrong with the sim card, then there is no fee. If they charge you, then you can contact Rogers/Fido yourself and they should credit your account.

Well actually in my scenario, I've had a few extra 4000-series SIM cards from newer phones that I've recently purchased. Luckily I wasn't charged :p

But $35 for a card is extortion. Never knew that they can credit your account if you say something ;P
