iPhone iphone 3gs 5.0.1 to 6.0.1

I have an iPhone 3gs jailbroken device. its purchased in USA so locked as well and unlocked later.
currently my phone is on 5.0.1 and i would like to update to 6.0.1 on whichever, i do not want to connect laptop for every reboot.
kindly guide me to a link that shows step by step guide or a youtube link

Just connect your device to the computer, open iTunes, right click the device, select Backup now, wait for it to complete, press Restore (which gives you the latest iOS version for your iPhone; iOS 6.1.3), do what iTunes says, wait for the Restore to be complete and after the Restore select Install Backup and wait for it to complete.

Uhm…the OP wants to keep his ability to jailbreak and an untethered jailbreak at that.

A restore to 6.1.3 would at best give the OP a tethered jailbreak, which is again, not what the OP wants.

Not what he said, plus an iPhone 3GS with iOS 6.0.1 or anything before 6.1.3 is no longer being accepted by Apple's servers.

True, but he said that he wants to update, he didn't said that he wants to jailbreak again. I'm not sure about iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreaks, but if there is only a tethered one he either has to live with it, don't jailbreak or install an earlier version of iOS 6 which won't be accepted for activation by Apple's servers, so he has to hacktivate it. (which isn't legal as far as I know)

If you don't have shsh blobs for that particular 3GS for ios 6.0.1 then you can never restore/update to it.
I think the highest the 3GS goes is 6.1.3 so you will have to go to that.
Use Tinyumbrella to see if you have any blobs saved for that phone.

Wrong all counts.

He said it is carrier locked. IMEI unlocks are hard to come by.
The easiest way to unlock update to 6.1.2 with blobs using sn0wbreeze preserving the BB for an untethered JB and unlock.
Or use sn0wbreeze to update to 6.1.3 while preserving the BB for a tethered JB and unlock.

In any case jailbreaking and unlocking is not illegal as long as the device was purchased erlier than jan 2013.

That thing is carrier unlocked (I assume he officially unlocked it via the carrier when he said "locked as well and unlocked later."), you can't lose that like a software unlock. I was not talking about jailbreaking or unlocking being illegal, but about hacktivating.

You don't know either, everyone of us assumes here since we haven't got enough information from the OP.

Years ago I definitely remember that hackivating an iOS device was illegal. I can't dream if that changed or not. And that's why I said "as far as I know".

You're missing the point, if you don't know you advise on the safe side.
Your original advise just to upgrade, at the very least that would cause him to update his BB.
That can be reversed, but it is a tricky procedure.

Hacktivating just means activating a carrier locked phone, nothing in the process is illegal for older phones.
If it was on 5.01 it is an older phone.
