Hi there,

New here, so hello!

Just got an iPhone 3GS. Access to my internet banking (HSBC UK) is fine - but is it secure to use it on the iPhone? I wouldnt access my internet banking on a laptop or PC without any firewall/security - so is it advisable/safe to access on the iPhone?

Hopefully it's fine and I am just being paranoid?

Cheers,
Ben

same rules apply as if using a laptop...

don't use unsecured wifi, or public wifi and make sure when you sign in it's via https.

Would be nice for uk banking to bring out some apps for it though.

Hi mate, thanks for the response! My home wifi is secure so that's fine...!

What about just out and about using the 3g network? If it says https I am safe over 3g? Or best to avoid?

Cheers,
Ben

As long as it's a secure site (https) then I'd say you are fine. Just as fine as you would be on a https site on your home computer. Yes, it's possible for someone to pick it up through the web, but HIGHLY unlikely. Even if they did, they would have to be either unbelievably skilled (then they'd be hacking millionaires) or have access to your banks system to be able to decrypt your information.

Internet Banking

I prefer not to use an app to do this but rather use safari to access the site and do it from there. I have found it to be just as secure as your home computer!

If the app is provided by the bank (which it usually is), then it should be just as secure as an https connection through safari.

It should be just as safe, but with a custom app we can't verify it as we can when we see the secure web address. That said, I've decided to trust the Bank of America app.

Is the Chase Banking app very secure? Does it have additional features from their web site?
