Hello everyone! I have an iPhone 3GS that i believe was on 4.2.1 with the ipad baseband 6.15.00. The phone was working perfectly fine and everything was running smooth until some apps started to crash for no reason. So all i did was to reboot it and now its stuck in recovery mode! I tried using recboot to kick it out of recovery mode but at it does it kick it right back in. I also tried using tiny umbrella and that didnt work either. I found this very useful video on how to restore and update a bricked 3gs to 5.0. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOdNmE0bGaU&feature=channel_video_title The thing is im on a mac and i cant seem to do it on a mac since the video shown is done on a windows. Any one have any tips or what i can do to Restore it and update it to 5.0 or 5.0.1??? Any help is very much appreciated!

download the newest pwnagetool and use it to generate 5.01 cfw that will keep the baseband at 6.15.

then go into Tiny Umbrella and make sure you UNCHECK point to cydia servers and close

option restore to the custom ipsw made by pwnage tool and it will work

if you get an error towards the end, like Error 1 then use redsn0w to fix it.

gl, when you finish it tell me what shsh blobs you have saved, 5.01 on 3gs is slooooow

I have my own personal iphone 3gs running on 5.0.1 and it runs a lot faster than it did on 4.0. This phone im trying to fix is another one i have. But thanks for the guide, i will give it a shot.

It may have something to do with the ipad baseband because mine i am running it with the 4.0 baseband. Ill see how this other 3gs reacts with the ipad baseband in 5.0.1

When you say "bricked" phone, that literally means it is a brick. It is broke. nonfunctioning. Crapped out. Your iphone turns on, ergo not "bricked".

yup. that sums it up o3o

the worst thing someone can do to brick an iphone is install ipad BB on a 3gs new bootrom, but still its not fully bricked xP

Why the hell do most people misuse the term "bricked"?

Bricked means completely unusable. Like a brick. It does not mean "in a state where the owner has no idea what to do next to fix it"

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A406 Safari/7534.48.3)

Bricks aren't useless either!

Hey chill out. If it bothers you, why dont you just ignore it and move on? That would be the mature thing to do.
