I recently purchased a 32GB iPhone 3GS white and I noticed that the back of the iPhone becomes slightly warm when using the phone and browsing the web. Are other people experiencing this as well? Is this the norm for all 3GS models or should I go to the Apple Store to see if they will replace it?

Any electronic device with heavy battery usage will have a warm battery. My Laptop does the same thing and the iPhone is no different.

I had a iPhone 3G and the back of the phone never felt warm with heavy usage or low usage. I noticed this right away with the 3GS and I would say that within 5 mins, the device was starting to get warm on the back.

I think my 3GS gets much hotter then my 3G. Makes my hand sweaty even, and then I worry about dropping it.

Well, my 3G has never felt warm, just ambient temperature of the surroundings. Perhaps, I'm not that tactile to tell the difference.

Edit: Okay, I can't admit I've had my iPhone using GPS for an hour. I also don't play very intensive games.

My iPhone3G go pretty warm when I used it for 1 hour as GPS device using google maps, so it was downloading a lot of maps, and using the GPS at the same time. (I was co driver, and we did not have a paper map, and no build in GPS)

So it's just normal for devices to get hot when using a lot of power.

Sure my old Nokia did not get that hot, but then again it did not fave GPS og google maps (yes you can get some with GPS)
But is also store the map on the phone so it do not need to download so mutch data.
And then again it's not as powerfull as the iPhone CPU
