Hey,

I have an iPhone 3GS currently jailbroken on firmware 3.1.2 with baseband 5.11.07 and bootloader 06.04. I jailbroke it with Blackra1n and unlocked it with blacksn0w (blacksn0w is in the package installed with blackra1n) to use on any network carrier. Now I am one of the unfortunate users with either an iPhone 3GS or an iPod Touch 3rd Gen that the jailbreak is teathered, meaning that whenever you switch the phone off or it runs out of battery - you have to re-run Blackra1n again to get your phone working again. Now as you can imagine this is very annoying.

So...... I've been looking around at a way to downgrade firmware to 3.0.1 wich is unteathered. NOW.... I know there are a lot of steps to do so. To downgrade firmware to 3.0.1 (from 3.1.2) and then to be able to unlock it, I need to first downgrade the baseband to 4.26.08 (from 5.11.07) so I can use Ultrasn0w to unlock to any carrier. But to downgrade basebands with Fuzzyband, you need to be on a bootloader lower than 5.8.

So.. Does anyone know how I can manage to unlock my SIM to any carrier on firmware 3.0.1 and baseband 5.11.07?? Because I know GeoHotz blacksn0w 5.11.07 unlock is only for firmware 3.1.2...

ANY HELP??

Thanks in advance!

P.S. this is my first post, so I hope I'm in the right section!

I think you heard/read some bad information.
Once you have a tethered jailbreak there isnt anything you can do to make it untethered at the moment.
Its not the firmware or if you downgrade to 3.0.1 WILL NOT turn it to an untethered jailbreak. Its the bootrom thats loaded into your phone from the factory and cannot be altered or downgraded.
Right now there is no way to JB your iphone 3GS without having a tethered JB. In the future maybe a tool/jailbreak will be released. Untill then there isnt anything that can be done.
Dont mess with it unless your 100% sure what you're doing and have your SHSH's saved thru cydia cause you might not only lose your unlock you may also lose your ability to jailbreak if you update or have to restore to 3.1.3
In other words leave it alone. Theres nothing that can be done at the moment.

Thats not possible.
Once you have an utethered jb its untethred no matter if you're on 3.0.1 or 3.1.2
It doesnt just turn into a tethered jailbreak if you upgrade to 3.1.2
I have an untethered JB 3GS on 3.1.2 but thats because my phone was bought when the 3GS first came out and had the old bootrom from the factory. That cannot be altered or changed with firmware updates.

There is no way to downgrade your baseband. If your at 5.11.07 there is an unlock for you, but its only by GeoHot "BlackSn0w" Maybe you have some wierd issue going on with your iphone, because if you ever had an untethered JB, U will always have an untethered JB.

You can try and use the new DevTeam's Jailbreak.

???? really? ok now im a little confused.

ok, When i got the phone from the apple store in London, it was locked to a network there and it came with 3.0.1. i unlocked it i think with purplera1n and i was on the 4.26.08 baseband. then i used ultrasn0w to unlock it to any carrier. then a couple months ago i decided to (me being an idiot and not reading up about teathering before i did it :/) upgrade with itunes (restore) to 3.1.2 and jailbrak with blackra1n then unlock with blacksn0w. everything is fine, but i just cant turn my phone off or let it run out of battery. and when i was on jailbroken 3.0.1, i could turn the phone off and back on with no troubles...

get me??

thanks for your help!!

hey mate,

i think i had an unteathered jailbreak. when i was on 3.0.1 i could turn the phone off and on with no problems. then when i upgraded to 3.1.2 with itunes it upgraded my baseband to 5.11.07. and now i cant turn my phone off or let it run out of battery.

but i do recall when i accidently let it run out of battery one time a couple weeks ago while on this 3.1.2 firmware, when it goes to reboot it gets stuck on the apple boot logo for like 2mins maybe then the screen goes black (as if its rebooting) then back to the apple logo.

any ideas ??

thanks again!

That doesnt make any sense.
So when you try to restart your iphone it gives you the connect to itunes logo and before it didnt?
Are you 100% about that?

no when i reboot now, it gets stuck on apple logo for like 2mins, reboots itself then back to stuck on apple logo. it doesnt go to the connect to itunes logo. ive never had ANY reboot problems before i used blackra1n. when i jailbroke with purplesn0w on 3.0.1 or redsn0w, i cant remember, i had no probs.

what should i do?

You should get a custom 3.1.2 firmware made with PwnageTool and restore to it in recovery mode. This should solve your problem.

Thats not a tethered jailbreak.
What you're experiencing is called Recovery Mode Loop.
Listen to what thelatinist said and I hope you have your SHSH's saved thru cydia.
If not you're SOL.

ok, im gunna try this out now. i dont have my mac with me at the moment. and im on my girlfriends windows desktop. do you know a reliable link to the custom ipsw?

thank you guys so much for your help, ill let you know how i go!

:)

ohhhhh, hey, hold the phone.

once i jailbreak with the custom ipsw, how do i unlock so i can use any carrier??

thanks again

There should be plenty online if you do a google search.
Look for Phone 3GS Custom Firmware 3.1.2 IPSW

Activated (for UnOfficial Carrier Users) iPhone2_1_3.1.2_7E18_Custom_Restore_Activated.ipsw

Hey hey hey.

The first time I jailbroke with blackra1n and rebooted, I got stuck on apple logo. So this time when I jailbroke again with blackra1n I didn't reboot thinking that I was teathered.. But just then when I ran AptBackup to save my cydia
apps it rebooted me and it was fine. Then I powered my phone fully off with slide to power off and then booted up and it worked fine. So I think I just had a bad jailbreak install the first time round.

But now everything seems to be fine. I have a 3gs unteathered with blackra1n. Pretty happy!! :)

But I just noticed 600mb of "other" space according to iTunes, so
I may just install the custom firmware
to clear things up!

Thanks alot for all your help guys! All the best,

Ben

Ahh ok. It's jut I never saw that before. All is good now, but most times I reboot my springboard crashes, but I have SBSettings to reboot the springboard. Cause sometimes it boots into safe mode.

But as long as I have a 3GS unteathered on 3.1.2, I'm happy!! :D
