iPhone 3GS, Full Bars Still No Service

I have a weird problem. My iPhone 3GS, and my wife's iPhone 3G, works beautifully everywhere except our home. We even took them camping with us over the weekend and we got reception way up in the mountains.

Now, my bars are full. I did a field test and its rendering at about -95. But I cannot send texts, I receive texts twenty to thirty minutes after they are sent, and I cannot make calls. I can sometimes receive them, but when i answer the person on the other line cannot hear me.

Once again I have FULL BARS.

The only place the phone works great in my house is in the bathroom close to the toilet. And I'm not joking haha. I have never really had any problems before the last few weeks in my home. I live in Louisville, KY, a fairly big city with plenty of towers around.

I went to AT&T they sent me an update via phone, didn't work. Gave me a new SIM CARD didn't work. I have don't a factory restore on the phone and a hard reset; didn't work. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow night, but I was just wondering if anyone had any similar problems or solutions.

Do you guys think this is an Apple Problem, or an AT&T??

The Full Bars yet still not making calls seems an iPhone issue maybe, but I don't know.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a major source of interference moved in nearby. A lot of devices are on similar frequencies to cell phones/wifi devices and are not wireless per se (microwave ovens).

Or maybe a cell site near you is failing or is overloaded. If enough people call their carrier, maybe something will happen.

If it were one phone I'd say try to get a replacement (ah, subsidies). Since its two different phones, and two different models, I think its environmental.

Ask your neighbors if they have cell or wifi problems recently and see if you can narrow it down some. Maybe someone has a commercial-grade microwave or something blasting the area with radio noise.

That makes sense.

One other thing I have noticed (I've been playing and testing with the phone for the last hour) is that if I turn airplane mode ON then OFF, resetting the network, it always works, I can make a call/text...but then I try to make another call or text and the same problem occurs.

in short, turning airplane mode on/off fixes the problem for about twenty seconds.
