I've noticed that my iPhone 3GS (16GB white) has very thin cracks near the speaker grill, as well as the SIM card slot. I've searched and noticed this is actually a common problem. The cracks are very thin, so do you think this is something worth worrying about? If it gets more serious, then I'll definitely have Apple trade it for a new one. Thoughts?

Edit: Nevermind, I've decided to keep this particular model. After reading numerous replies about this issue, my iPhone apparently doesn't have it as bad as others. It's only located in two small spots and it's barely noticeable, unless inspected. If it gets worse, then I will handle it. For now though, I'm going to have to buy myself a nice case.

Have you noticed any scratch patterns on the surface of the case—on the silver Apple logo, for example?

Don't let it get worse. It happened to my 3G and at first they were small but it got to be about 1-2cm long. I rang apple and they agreed to swap it and so I went to me local apple store and they swapped it.

You should do so before it has a chance to get worse.

I suppose you mean the cracks reported by another poster and not the scratches that I mentioned. What I'm talking about are not cracks, but scratches to the back of the case (I have a black 3gs) and especially the silver logo. My wife and I both have these, and they are easily becoming scratched up, even though we are carsful and keep them in cases. I wonder if this is happening to everyone and they just don't care, or if it's peculiar to us for some reason.

My first 3GS (white) Apple logo was scratched within my first day of light use. I was surprised since the back casing appears to be pretty good at handling inevitable scratching.
Now on my second 3GS I'm been more careful but no doubt the logo will get scratched.
Surely there is a few layers of lacquer over the logo?

Yeh I did mean the crack sorry should've quoted.

I know exactly what you mean, my replacement 3G the first day I had it, it was in a case, yet the Apple logo was scratched like I had had it a month.
