iphone 3gs locked on 3.1 update

Hey everyone,

Not sure if this has been encountered yet but on updating to 3.1 my itunes said it could not update and the phone is locked on the updating screen.

i didnt jailbreak it, its standard 3.0 os.

Can't shut it down, or do anything. I am wondering if I have to wait until the battery dies or what. Itunes wont recognize it in its current state.

Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my phone going into recovery mode once the update was done. No jailbreak here either. Took about an hour and a half to get it working again. I used iRecovery.
