The Carrier option on the Settings menu randomly appeared and when I went to the home screen and back into settings it was gone. Anyone else seen this with a locked phone on AT&T? Granted, the only Carrier choices are AT&T or AT&T :p

I don't get what the point of the menu is. It isn't like if you have an AT&T SIM you can choose T-mobile in the menu and expect it to work. AFAIK, it just shows the network it's currently on. When I used Ultrasn0w and tried a T-mobile SIM, it had T-mobile in the menu instead of AT&T.

generally its for when you travel abroad you can choose which carrier you wish to roam on... ATT has agreements with several carriers in most countries and some are much stronger than others...

most phones give you the option to select carrier, but not the iphone... at least on att... my gf has one on rogers in canada and she has the option...

I am looking for a way to enable that on my iphone because I live in a border community. To keep people from getting huge bills from accidentally roaming onto the canadian networks from the US side of the line, ATT has made it so that it holds onto the att signal as long as possible before switching to rogers...

thing is I have a north america plan where canada is included and I want my phone to switch to rogers as soon as I cross the border... what happens instead is if im within a few miles of the border, on the canadian side my phone tries to stay on ATT but does a ****** job of it and I am unable to make any calls at all... its also problematic anywhere on the southern part of Vancouver Island where it tries to maintain a connection with towers across the straight in the san juan islands, but doesnt really work... therefore i cant use my phone at all even though im surrounded by strong rogers 3g
