Hi, I just purchased a new 3GS and it intermittently has problems sending and receiving calls and txt's. I thought it was the service, but my girlfriend just received her phone and it sends and receives perfectly fine. I called ATT and they walked me through turning the phone off/on, resetting the network settings, and also made me turn airplane mode off/on. would work for a couple minutes and then it would stop. the txt would go to about 90% and then would fail. I also try to resend it and then it fails again. Gave it a couple minutes and it would work again. I swapped the sim and put it in my gf's phone and it works fine. Now with her sim in there she would experience the same issue. I'm leaning towards the phone causing the problem. Anybody else experience this issue??

Wow... everything you wrote is EXACTLY what I have been experiencing. My phone also switches between 3G to Edge to GPRS to No service. I tried calling 1-800-MY-APPLE the other day (in regards to another product I purchased) and it simply would not dial at all. I used my house phone and the call went straight though.

So, I called up AT&T today and they said I should remove the battery.

At that point I simply sighed and hung up. I'm 99% sure that it is a hardware related issue since I had none of these problems with my 3G.

Yeah, My phone doesn't switch from 3G at all though. Signal strength is excellent. It's just weird how i swapped the sim's and with my gf's sim in my phone it would still fail. so i highly doubt its the service. I'm going to the apple store tomorrow to see what they say. Hopefully i dont get the run around. I have proven that the phone itself is failing when sending/receiving. I was also testing both of the phones side by side and her's would work perfectly fine.

Alright, let me know what they say. This is really weird since I normally get full bars at my house and now I am getting this horrible intermittent signal.

My iPhone is weird too I'm listening to music or just txting and it has full 3G but all if the sudden 3g goes and edge appears wit low signal! I want to go to the apple store where I bought it but sinc am on my 30 days they will exchange the phone for a new one and have to give them my box autograph by Wosniak so I'll wait more time

This is NOT an AT&T issue... or if it were, then it must be an O2, TMobile, Telephonica issue too. Look at all the Apple forums across the world!

I believe Apple are on to it. It's a hardware/software issue on the iPhone. I have it too. Hopefully 3.0.1 should sort it.

David,
When I exchanged my 3G for issues last year the genius bar did a one for one swap with the IPhone only. No box required.
Actually did that twice because the replacement had other issues, still just a IPhone replacement only no box required.
So perhaps your safe with the autographed box. Go swap out that IPhone :)

I didn't get to the apple store today, so i'll try to get there tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully they swap my phone with no problems.

Alright I just got back from the apple store and they ran some diagnostics on my phone and saw that it failed 50% of the time. They went ahead and swapped my phone and stated that if this happens again I would need to have my sim swapped out. Hopefully this does the trick. Looks good so far.
