I searched in the forums for this topic but couldn't find it. If it's posted somewhere else, I apologize. I noticed that I could access my voice control function while the phone is locked. This may not be a concern to others but the fact that someone can hold down my home key and request to dial any phone number, doesn't sit right with me.

Well it kinda has to be that way to work. You can always turn off voice control.

Just found out on the Apple website that you can disable it by going to the passcode lock.

Oh, when you said the phone was "locked" I thought you meant it was password locked already. ;) .. in that case, yeah, it seems logical to work while the phone is asleep but not locked.

No it doesn't...?
If you passcode protect your phone and in the lock preferences disable voice dial it won't actually work.

It will still ask to voice dial but if you ask for a number/contact it will say VC is disabled.

I would like to be able to totally turn voice control off or be able to totally turn it off while locked. My concern is battery consumption. The fact that VC still asks for a voice command even though its disabled and won't dial.

A few occasions while in my pocket the phone has vibrated and VC has churped up while locked, wasting precious battery power.

Do as I have doe and post a feature request/enhancement on Apples support page.

Voice control turns on Ipod when I sit down

I must be the only 3gS user in the world that has this problem, as I can't find anyone that has a solution or seems to know what i mean ;)

But, when I sit down, my Ipod starts playing. It happens daily, more than once. I know I can disable Voice Control, but not for the ipod. So, all I can do is delete all the music on the phone- but I still hear the voice control go off when I sit down.

Yes, I do realize that I can avoid this by not putting my phone in my back pocket, but it seems like I should be able to turn off the voice control for the ipod feature..
Thanks

Try a restore and setup as new phone.

It also works for me WITH passcode lock. I held down the home button, voice command prompt showed up, I was able to say "call home", and it actually called home with no problem. It also played music when asked. Most times I had to hold down the home key twice.

I agree this is a small vulnerability. I say small because during a call I tried to press contacts and it went straight to the lock passcode screen. So basically Voice control while in lock screen still allows you to do some basic functions but keeps the contents of the phone unasscessable.

The worst thing about this vulnerability is using Voice control while in lock screen, you can still speak numbers and call any number you want.

BTW ..... I can't see how Voice control is enable by mistake being that the home button does not protrude. You must be wearing some very tight jeans.

EDIT: my 3GS is jailbroken in case that makes a difference.

I think the bad part is that it still chirps while the Silent switch is on (On?).

This could very well be a problem in school, as I keep my phone on silent.

It also works for me WITH passcode lock.

Eve when you have this set as shown?

I thought that would solve it since I had Voice Dial on the "ON" settings. But the Voice Control still allowed me to make calls even on the "OFF" setting.

Ok after I turn the phone completely off and then back on again on the "OFF" setting. NOW ..... Voice Control still works but when I try to Voice a call it states that "Voice dialing is disabled". :D

So that setting you posted does work, but seems not to have any affect unless you reboot the iPhone.
