Iphone 3GS VS Sprint Htc Hero

I know this is an iphone forum but I just wanted to share my experience with these 2 phones. So if this bothers you please use the backspace in your keyboard to read another thread.

I got the hero today and been playing/using it non stop.
I have read some reviews that the hero UI makes the iphones UI look old and outdated. Are they smoking toilet paper or what?

After hours of using the hero I could not WAIT to get my hands on the iphone again! To make this sweet and short, here are the pros and cons.

Pros:

Nice screen
Opens apps very fast (but read the cons below)
Great speaker for music and speaker phone
Nice MP3 sound through headset
Great call quality

Cons:

Opens apps fast but once your IN the app most apps work super SLOW.
UI very flaky, not smooth at all, hard to click things including things on the web. Maybe thats why they included that HUGE roller scroller?
Videos look nice but they are of sync a bit with voice. Maybe because I used the videos converted for the iphone? I doubt it though, the pre played them perfectly.
Browsing was OKAY but nothing compared to the iphone. The hero was SLOW opening pages even on wifi.

There is much more cons including the android apps, I'm sure there are some good/great ones but to ME and the ones I did download they were not at all that nice. Pandora looked pretty nice but was slow to open and slow to switch songs.

To conclude, if I had to pick the hero vs the palm pre, I would jump like a frog to get to the palm pre! If I had to choose the hero vs the iphone, well its really a no brainer. I am convinced that the only phone that will win me over from the iphone will be another iphone!

The smoothness and the app store, itunes, browser, ipod and so much more makes this phone a true KILLER!

So happy I own such a nice device!

I think your review lacks objectivity, but within that bias I think it raises some legitimate concerns. Still looking forward to the HTC HD2.

Why do you think it lacks objectivity? Sounds to me like he has used them both a good amount and decided he prefers the iphone for clear, concrete reasons. If he'd just dismissed the hero out of hand or claimed the iphone was the winner for no good reason, now that would lack objectivity.

All four of these issues are relating to speed. HTC recently released a firmware update which greatly improved the speed of the OS. Did you make sure you had that latest firmware?

Engadget, gizmodo and other tech websites wrote about how slow in the Hero is, but have since wrote about how snappy it is with the latest firmware.

One thing that wasn't touched on at all was reception and there's a night and day difference, or that was my experience in my location. Specifically, I cannot hold a phone conversation for more than 5 minutes without the call being dropped. That's using my 3GS, my 3G and my wife's 3G. No longer than 5 minutes, usually much less. If I need to make a voice call that will probably run more than a couple minutes, I'll pull the sim card, drop it in my HTC WinMo phone and I can talk for as long as I'd like. There are two iPhones, two HTC phones and a Blackberry on my desk right now and of the 5, the iPhones are, by a wide margin, the worst when it comes to actually being a phone. They're also notably quieter and the call quality is noticably worse than the WinMo or Blackberry phones.
