iPhone 4 can't be turned on, restoring gives error 1

Hi all,

So, on that fateful day I decided to turn off my iPhone 4 to just reset my phone cos my apps are laggy, and it can't be turned on again. The screen just showed that Apple logo, blinked off, then the Apple logo came back on again. I read the manual and it said I needed to restore to factory settings and I followed the steps and I got the screen to show the cable to iTunes (restore mode). And now the restoring stucks at 60% and gave the error 1.

The history: This phone has been jailbroken before when it's on iOs 5.1.1. After that, I did a restore to factory settings plus update to iOs 7.1.2. Does this erase the jailbreak? So, what should I do now to get my phone back on? I don't mind erasing everything cos I got the backup.

Plug Device into Computer and Open iTunes. Turn Device off.
Hold Power and Home for at least 10 seconds. Release Power and continue holding until the device registers in iTunes.
If the device registers in iTunes it is in DFU and should be able to be fully restored. Set it up as a new phone and you will end up on iOS 8.1.1 with everything erased.
 
Error 1 can brick your phone. Try to restore into a different computer. If restore works your phone will be on the last iOS that was on previous to the restore.
 
Ok. I tried to restore on another computer, following all the steps, and still got stuck at "Restoring iPhone firmware", at around 60% on the bar, with the same error 1.

What should I do next?

Well lets try from the scratch.
1. You have the latest version of itunes ?
2. Did you remove that hosts files from /etc folder
3. did you shut down your firewall and antivirus software if any...
4. tried on the other computer... couple of times... :)

Remember that when itunes detects your phone it will tell you that you need to update to the iOS 8.1.1. you can not restore previous versions of the iOS. If this dialog does not shows up when your phone is detected you might have a hardware problem.

1. I have iTunes 12.0.1.26.
2. Sorry, I do not know how to do that.
3. Yes, I shut down the AV and firewall.
4. I tried on both desktop and laptop, alternating between those two.

iTunes detected my phone and said my phone is in recovery mode and needed to be restored/updated.
 
You have a faulty baseband chip. I'm afraid there's not much you can do. You either tear down your phone to remove and replace the baseband chip or you go for a replacement phone though not quite sure if Apple is still doing it for iPhone 4. You'll need to check that one out for yourself.
 
On Windows, the hosts file can be found here: C:\Windows\System32\ drivers\etc\hosts.
On OSX, the hosts file can be found here: /private/etc/hosts.

Just move them on the desktop for example, because you have to return them back in the original folder after the restore. Don't forget to restart itunes.
 
Ok, I removed the hosts files, restarted iTunes and restore, same thing happened, stuck at 60% and error 1. And yes, I'm using a new usb cable.

Faulty baseband chip? Is that a hardware problem then, as in something in the phone has spoiled?
 
The baseband is one of the most important chips that make the iPhone a telephone. It is very complex circuitry with memory storage which if corrupted makes the chip inoperable and irreparable.
 
Does that mean there is no solution and I need to send this phone to the workshop?
