I posted about this before, but decided to post again, with more information, since more people are reading the forum now.

I have a GSM iPhone 4 that's been upgraded to iOS 5.

The issue is that Wifi doesn't seem to connect automatically when the screen is turned on. It will not connect until you open an app that uses the network (Safari, Twitter, mail). Sometimes you can do things that use the network, like E-mailing a photo, and it won't turn on Wifi, using 3G to email it. This is bad as it wastes my data plan!

Some apps use the network but won't turn on Wifi, like StatusNet.

Is anyone else seeing this? I'm wondering if it's a general iOS 5 bug, or if something is screwed up on my phone. It's not a showstopper, but some people might get surprised by higher than normal data usage if their phone doesn't consistently get on their home Wifi.

Mine is connecting just fine when I unlock my iPhone 4. Running iOS 5 as well. Maybe try "forgetting" your network then reloading it?

I tried that already. It connects immediately, but then doesn't connect automatically on unlock next time.

Try a "Reset Network Settings" in Settings->General->Reset, then rejoin your network and test.

Nope, didn't work. It's still not connecting automatically. (Though this was probably a good idea; who knows how many networks I had in there that I'm never going to visit again, from traveling)
