iPhone 4 Video Resolution

I am beginning to process DVD (.vob) video files into .mp4/.m4v (H.264) and I wish to make them in such a way that the video resolution takes full advantage of the new hardware. The Apple website states:

3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
800:1 contrast ratio (typical)

This being the case it seems logical to me that my target output should therefore be 960 x 640.

Is my assumption correct? Is there anything that I'm not taking in to consideration that I should?

AFAIK you are correct. This would correctly utilize the native resolution of the iphone

There is no reason to upscale the video to 640p since DVDs are 480p native. Your best bet is to stick with the resolution original size of the video from the disc. If you were working from a high-def source, it would be a different story.

That makes no sense. A DVD has LOWER resolution than that of the iPhone 4, so doing iPhone 4's native rez will do you know good. All my rips are at 640x480, but I'm not going to bother to re-do them.

ah yeah my bad. I was assuming you were going to be taking higher res videos. listen to other people

Thanks. I was so worried that I overlooked the obvious. I will keep the vids at DVD and not worry about up-converting.
