One day so far however my iPhone 4 with ios5 uses about 20% more battery than with ios4. Nothing in my usage has changed and I have most of the automatic data using features turned off. Thoughts?

Did you update or restore to iOS5? I did a complete restore and battery appears to be better than before.

I have the same issue. I plan on doing a full drain tonight and recharge over night. One thing I did notice is that my usage is blank...:confused:

For what it's worth I noticed no difference at all in battery life...and I may have actually noticed a slight boost compared to 4.2.8 or whatever it was before. I can't say for sure, but definitely no worsening of battery life here...

Mine is absolutely terrible! was down to 20% by noon, and barely used it. Now when i plug it in, it is charging extremely slowly.

anything i should check?? I've force closed all applications and restarted phone a couple of times.

Are you folks who are having problems using location-based Reminders? That will eat into your battery, since it has to always be on to determine where you are.

What do you mean by location based reminders? I have location services on for about 7 things, none of them are the reminders app.

With light texting and email use, my battery is down to 44% today, whereas similar usage a day ago (with more location services on) on iOS4 would have had me at about 80%.

The battery drain is brutal on my phone thus far.

I'm honestly not surprised.

more advanced stuff uses more power...

Though, i dont see THAT Much of a difference. i've used8% power the last 5 hours while i was at work (phone in my pocket the whole time, screen turned off) but i got messages, mails and facebook stuff in the meantime

So, it should last around 2.5 days in my pocket, turned on...

Everyone, be sure you turn off "Cell Network Search" and "Set Time Zone" in Settings=>Location Services=>System Services. Also, turn Local Weather off, and add it manually. Following these tips, you will get better battery life, for sure.

Yes, I've been testing this from beta 3 of iOS 5.

Just so i am clear.... is Cell/Mobile Network Search the reason why today while at work, where i get no signal my phone kept displaying searching instead of no service??

If so if i turn off this service what does it do or not do?? Same question for setting time zone??

Battery sucking dry and phone runs hot

iPhone 4, updated to iOS5 yesterday - battery can't seem to drain fast enough. Phone is also hot to the touch.

"Cell Network Search" turns up the GPS when you lose signal completely (although, it happened even though I had signal, and it still drains battery). I don't know what this setting does, but "Searching..." still appears there, in the status bar.

"Setting Time Zone" keeps your GPS on, and it will change the time on your device depending where are you. This is really bad for the battery, and it is enabled by default.

Since iOS 5 beta 3, with those settings, I have not seen any negative effect. The only effect was that the battery lasted more.

Yeh I have to say, on my 3GS today, it's lasting longer then average in use, actually battery life seems quite noticeably better.

For the people experiencing drain - did you tell your phone it's ok to send Apple Diagnostic & Usage statistics? Try turning that off under Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage

My battery life is significantly better with iOS 5 than with iOS 4. Even with the increased usage of it being a new OS and playing with all the new features, I manage to end the day with about 10% more battery life than before.

Yeh for example before I could stream from Pandora going to sleep and usually the phone will die by the morning, and browsing online for like 30 min. This morning, it was at 35% even with the browsing before sleep, and after using it for other stuff in the morning. Impressive battery life.

My battery life is much better than it was before update. At this time of day, I'd have maybe 35-40% left. Right now it's at 79%.
