Hello. This is my first post here. I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I have an HP laptop computer that is 1 year old. It has Windows 10, 64 bit. I have an old iPhone 4 that is not connected to a service. I can't use it as a phone. However, I have been using it as a digital camera for many years now. I have been working on a project for several years now that requires me to shoot many photos and transfer them to my HP laptop computer for processing. I connect my iPhone 4 to my HP computer via a cable (I think a USB cable). I use iTunes.

Until recently, I had no problems. Everything was going fine. I last connected my iPhone 4 to my computer 3-4 months ago. This past week, I tried to connect my iPhone 4 to my HP computer, and nothing happened. It was totally dead. There was no response, as if it wasn't even connected. My cable is fine. I tried multiple times. A family member has a newer iPhone (I think an iPhone 6). I can successfully connect that iPhone to my HP computer. It works fine. But I can't connect my iPhone 4 to my HP computer. It won't respond. I have literally hundreds of photos in my iPhone 4 that I need to transfer to my HP computer for processing. I can't proceed with my project until I can successfully transfer them. I don't want to lose those photos.

I uninstalled my iTunes and reinstalled it. It still won't work. There is no response. I did an internet search. I noticed that Apple has an iTunes version for the iPhone 4 and Windows 10. It is the 9.2.1 version. I checked to make sure that my HP laptop computer has the 64 bit Windows. It does. I attempted to download that iTunes version (iTunes 9.2.1 for Windows 64 bit), but it won't install on my computer. I tried multiple times. Every time I try, the installation crashes before being completed. And I get a strange message ("...verify that you have sufficient privileges..."). The iTunes icon momentarily appears on my computer, but then it vanishes. A Quick Time Player icon appears on my computer. That appears to install successfully, but the iTunes won't install.

Am I going down the right path by attempting to install the 9.2.1 version of iTunes? If yes, how do I successfully install it without it constantly crashing before the installation is complete? Or should I try something completely different?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I will attempt to post a screenshot of the message I get when the installation attempt crashes.

I think it should work even with the current version of iTunes. Last year, I used it to synch a 2007 iPod Classic under Windows 11.

Are you using the Microsoft Store version or the Apple.com version. If you are using the Apple.com one, try to uninstall that and install from the Microsoft Store.

Hi JCCL,

I tried what you suggested. I uninstalled the Apple version of iTunes, and I installed the latest iTunes version from the Microsoft store. And it worked. My old iPhone 4 successfully connected and synced to my HP laptop computer. I was able to successfully transfer all of my photos to my computer.

However, it is VERY slow. It is excruciatingly slow. It literally took several minutes (about 3-4 minutes) to transfer a few hundred photos. But it did work.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. You "saved the day" for me. I was really worried that I was going to lose all of my photos. I can't thank you enough.

I wonder why that happened in the first place. I didn't change anything.

Hi BigBlur,

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I tried JCCL's suggestion, and it worked.

As I mentioned above, I don't understand what happened because I didn't change anything.

I had the same issue by using the iTunes from the Microsoft Store on my parents computer. I downloaded iTunes directly from Apple and it installed the required services.
