To improve your battery life on the iphone 4S , there is one simple thing that you have to do, most people are overlooking this, and the reason is because they do not know why. Simply go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.

What does this do?
Reset all settings will not delete any content but it will require you to re-enter passwords and modify other settings again, but beyond the obvious, this option is a troubleshooting technique that is effective specifically if you have an iphone that was restored from a backup when you set it up. What it actually does is rewrite some of the libraries that effect things such as FaceTime enabling, missing default apps, etc. in a nutshell it's a quick software refresh.

Post your results here and let me know how it goes
