iphone 4s got very warm

I just downloaded Waze , gps application. As I was trying it today, I got a phone call, answered the phone and completely forgot about it. In about 15 minutes the phone got super warm,a s if some application was running out of control.

Was it Waze? Or is something else going on. How do I get to troubleshoot this.
