I've jailbroke phones successfully before. This one has me stumped. I hook up the phone and the jailbreak tab on redsnow goes grey and won't work. Absinthe says my device isn't compatible? What's the deal?

It must not be running iOS 5.0.0, 5.0.1, or 5.1.1. iOS 5.1 and 6.0 are not jailbreakable on the iPhone 4S.

You really should include your iOS version when posting a question like this. As Intell points out above, the firmware version makes all the difference.

Thanks for giving us no information. I guess we will give you no advise for this too.

I am running IOS 6 but why do they say the jailbreak is out when you guys say it isn't? I guess I'll just revert back to IOS5?

There is a jailbreak out there that works on IOS 6 but only for A4 devices (iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G) I believe, so that means there's no jailbreak for the iPhone 4S yet.

btw you can't go back to IOS5.

I'm no expert and I don't play one here, but...

When I "jailbroke" my 4S, I read a lot of posts here and elsewhere to make sure it would work on my phone and OS before I started. Jailbreaking a phone is not like downloading and installing something off the app store.

I've got an iPhone 5 on order and I "unjailbroke" my 4S in preparation for selling it. There are only a few Cydia apps I really like, but I really like them, so I will be looking forward to a solid jailbreak solution for my "5" and I won't try it until I've read extensively here about the experiences of others jailbreaking their 5's.

You can't go back to 5 from 6 on an iPhone 4S. Always read before updating so that you don't fall off the jb train next time.

You cannot do either. You can't revert back to ios5 on a 4S now that your on 6.0 and you cannot jb either.
Who said you can jb? Every device is different. The i4 and 3GS is a different story.
Would be nice if you researched a little and found out some info.
It's not just plug it in and jb any device with any program you find first on the net.

JailBreakMe, a site focused on iPhone 4 Jail Breaking, has thought of a make use of within the Safari Browser that allows PDF’s to be downloaded, specifically the code that jailbreaks the iPhone and other Apple Products.

Yes, but only for certain 4+ firmware, 5+ is absinthe, and for the 4S on iOS 6 there is no jailbreak possibilty at the moment

Same for you, readup before you post something.

Don't want to sound mean but if you are clueless to what you advise then don't.
