I have an iPhone 4S, its been jailbroke for some time, running and older firmware(6.x). I wanted to restore it, so I entered DFU mode and attempted to update too 7.0.4. iTunes gave me an error that an error occurred and the iPhone couldn't be restored.

The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (29).

I attempted to run TinyUmbrella remembering something about using that to restore an iPhone, still wouldn't work but I may not be doing something right.

I looked through some old posts, but couldn't find anything that has worked. Any suggestions? Thanks

Is your hosts file pointing to cydia's servers?

I am having the same error and I remember I changed the battery a while back. If you have the old one put it back in again and update, then you can put the new one back. I'm actually going to the genius bar today to see if they can do pretty much that, put a new one, update and put the old one back. I think they are going to tell me to **** off tho.

In any case just buying a new original battery should solve the problem.

Edit: for the record yea, they told me go go fck myself

Wish I had the original battery to swap, the phone doesn't work well anyway, probably won't bother with a new battery. Thanks for the info

Just out of curiosity - why putting it in DFU mode before trying to update.

I had mine running on 6.1.2 JB. Just connected it to iTunes, hit restore and it was restored (and upadated) to 7.0.4

For me personally, just a habit I developed from the older jailbreak days when everything wasn't as simple as a button click
