My daughters iPhone 5 out of the blue froze and now just does the Apple logo reboot loop.

Hard resetting does nothing.
Plugging into power results in the same boot loop but the logo goes blue and fades out, this repeats over and over until unplugged.

When unplugged it stops after a few loops.

Can kind of put it into Recovery mode when plugged into the iMac, iTunes says it is but nothing at all on the iPhone screen.
Allows me to try to restore but then when 'waiting for iPhone' the phone goes into the boot loop/blue fade thing forever.

Tried the reset with volume up also. No joy.

Never been opened or messed with.

Any ideas?

Was thinking maybe faulty battery and might get a kit off eBay and try that.

Out of warranty repair by Apple is £206, not willing to pay that on an older phone.

It's not the battery. I'm pretty sure it's some other hardware failure.

This kind of thing happens in 2 cases:
1) hardware is damaged (or defective)
2) the phone is using a third-party screen which apparently is a problem nowadays

Thanks for the reply.

It's never been repaired, 3rd party or otherwise.

No cosmetic damage as it lives in an official leather case.

Ah well, she'll just have to manage with the old spare 4S until the next new iPhone where she'll get another hand-me-down.

Good news.

Chatted online with Apple Support which lead to a call back and then passed onto a senior adviser.
Went through all the processes and sending data logs on a failed restore, then I happened to mention I wouldn't be keen on any fee to repair as I spend an awful lot of money on Apple gear.
Listed my stuff I own including a recent MacBook Pro purchase and 2 Apple Watch preorders, he replied that he can waive fees if there is a good enough reason.

He put me on hold, to check my claim I expect, then came back excited to tell me we can forget about all the data info for the engineers and that he will reward my loyalty by replacing the iPhone for free. :)

He even booked a Genius appointment near to where my wife works (we don't have a local Apple Store) to simply hand over the dead iPhone and receive a replacement. Had the option to have the exchange done via courier but couldn't as no-one is home during the day and also could have done it all over mail but would have taken ages.

So.....VERY happy with Apple's customer service.
They do indeed look after their loyal, regular customers.

Thanks Apple. :)
