as far as i am aware, theres multiple betworks that can run on the iphone 5.

edge 2.5
3g
3g hspa+ (4g)
4g (lte)

now from when i bought the iphone i immediately noticed bhere is no way to turn off the 3g without turning off the edge, which remains a mystery in my head as to why they did that.

yet when i'm in a 3g-less area, edge comes up, but there is still bo toggle for edge. turn off 3g (which i suppose is appropriately named cellular data), edge goes off too.

so with that in mind, are there any jailbreaks or tweaks to shut off 4g, 3g, lte, and leave it on JUST edge?

My question is, why would you want to do that?

EDGE is an outdated technology and telcos are moving away from it. AT&T and T-Mobile are both refarming their bandwidth, taking away from EDGE and adding to 3G/4G and LTE.

There's really no reason to force EDGE. Its performance is just going to go down as bandwidth is refarmed, and it won't be around forever.

Edge uses less battery.
And on my jailbroken 4S, I have the Auxo tweak which has settings toggles in the multitasking bar, one of which allows you to shut off only 3G, without shutting off edge, so it allows me to force edge.
I have heard it doesn't work with the 5, but I cannot confirm.
I'm sure the other settings toggle tweaks allow this as well if you don't want to use Auxo.

Good luck.

With the cellular radio in the 4S and the 5, the difference between EDGE and 3G power drain is very negligible.

wrong!

i've literally been in 3Gless areas and the battery lasts much longer without it. it is noticible for me anyway.

also in certain areas, even though there's a 3G connection, there is no data reception and edge is actually better.

it's just an option that i'd like to have and it boggles my mind as to why they do this ****.

Yes the Edge network in America (probably other countries as well) is being dismantled. AT&T is being so proactive at this undertaking that before iOS5 came out, they requested Apple remove the settings toggle to turn HSPA+ off. I have an AT&T 4S which obviously can use HSPA+ or Edge. I keep my phone on Edge pretty all the time except for when I'm not on wifi and I need to access a lot of data. My battery life is much better when I follow this setup opposed to always using HSPA+. When I'm not on wifi and I need to get on the internet or access an app like Flipboard or some other data intense app, I use NCSettings to turn Edge off and turn on HSPA+. I will continue to do this until I upgrade phones or ATT officially kills off the Edge network.
