iPhone iPhone 5 Home Button Issue

I'm not sure EXACTLY which forum to post this in, but since I'm jailbroken I think here would be appropriate since there may have been others in the same boat as me.

I've been having persistent issues with the home button on my iPhone 5. I'm also jailbroken and I have Zephyr and whatnot which helps a great deal, but for those moments when I feel like using my home button or when I have to, it's very hit and miss. After left alone the button might not respond for the first one-two clicks, after that it will start responding. There are also times when I press it once, and a double click will register. The button feels a bit loose for the most part and the click can be louder than usual at times, and these are issue I've NEVER experienced with my 4S (that button still works flawlessly to this day, I guess it's the different mechanics they used).

My first iPhone 5 had an issue like this, and I returned it, then the second one had a problem with the lock button (one side was completely unresponsive). Now this phone was perfect at first but the quality of the button has gradually degraded.

I'm wondering what are my options as to fixing the button myself. Are there any at-home remedies such as the alcohol trick that worked on the iPhone 4? Or should I try taking it to a third party business that fixes them?

I really want to keep my jailbreak, so I want to save Apple as a last resort option because I don't think they're giving out phones with 6.1.2 anymore :(

sounds like a faulty home button, it was a very common issue on the iPhone 4 not the 4S though'.

I'd rather swap it for a good unit than keep a jailbroken but broken iPhone. or at least the home button

you can try a third party place and try to repair it tho i'm not sure if apple can notice if you did this and consequently might void your warranty

it's this reason that i just wouldn't risk it. i'd take it into apple for an in-store replacement. losing jailbreak sucks. maybe you could wait until you get towards the end of the one year warranty. that way, you probably won't have to wait as long for an ios 7 jailbreak to come out.

You know that doesn't sound like a bad idea. I think that's what I'm going to end up doing should my home button LAST until mid-September lmao. Thanks for the input guys!

I called UBreakIFix about fixing it, and they wanted $89.99 to replace it should it need to be. I'd technically be paying $89.99 for a jailbreak and my screen protector, and that's ridiculous.

If you're lucky, your slow-to-respond home button is due to a software glitch. To find out, you'll need to calibrate your home button. Here's how:

Open up a stock app, like the Clock. Hold down the sleep button until "Slide to power off" appears. When it does, let go of the sleep button and hold down the home button. After about 5-10 seconds, the app will close.

I did that already lol, I should have said that. But thanks for the help! Like this is a real physical problem. My friend has an iPhone 5 identical to mine, and when he would use mine, he even noticed a difference with my home button in contrast to his. I've realized myself that his feels far sturdier than mine, and his doesn't miss any presses either when I use it. And this was before the problem got worst.

Then just restore it before you bring it in, its the first thing they'd tell you to do for troubleshooting anyway.

I don't see the issue.
