$50 bucks says we won't see an untethered jailbreak until December. Last year we didn't get an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak until the end of December and that didn't even include A5 devices.

A few things:

1.) I think they actually have the exploits ready to roll for the A6.
2.) The 5 dropped almost a month sooner than the 4S, thus that should mean that assuming things go smoothly (I would say that the 4S scenario was not so smooth), we should certainly have an A6 (iPhone 5) jailbreak before the end of December, at the latest.

Nah I would be the happiest man alive right now :)

That being said, it's probably still 2 months away from a release. Still awesome to know that it's doable though.

Agreed.

So excited. The 5 is good enough that it was worth dropping my jailbreak for it, but to have a jailbreak for it would be oh so sweet.

Sounds to me like theres an exploit in the A6 or iOS6 thats going to make JB easy...here's hoping, my device doesn't ship til October 10 so I have time to wait. But seeing it day 1 is def exciting.

Just think about how many tweaks and apps we can run with the extra memory and fastest chip on the market....its going to make having a jailbroken device 10x better

I really hope it's a hardware exploit. Untethered by thanksgiving if this story is true (and the source is very trustworthy IMO). Christmas untethered would be amazing, too.

i would say its safe to say that apple will be releasing a 6.0.1 soon to fix the maps and other bugs. so you have to wait atleast till that drops.

Maybe Apple isnt focused on patching jailbreaks quickly anymore, 5.1.1 was left alone for months and never patched

pardon my ignorance, but whats the difference between an iOS 5 jailbreak & an untethered jailbreak? basically... whats an untethered jailbreak?
im fairly new to jailbreaking and jailbroke my i4 3 weeks back...

You can't reboot a tethered jailbreak without using a computer to do so.

You can't reboot a tethered jailbreak without using a computer to do so.

Which sucks if it does, you install a package that requires a reboot. Or sometimes the jailbreak will make it even more likely to causes a reboot.

I ran my old IP4 tethered for awhile also using ultrasn0w to unlock, it wasn't that bad, ofcourse untethered is beter, but tethered worked fine for me.

I will never use an untethered jailbreak. I need my phone to be stable and reliable, and can't afford to suddenly lose all functionality if there's a reboot while I'm away from the office.

Same here, back then. I can't remember the last time I had to reboot my iPhone either way...

You mean you would never use a tethered JB, right?
