Well i have a load of apps installed and after a respring and closing all apps, i have 380mb of ram left. I think this is a bit low... This means less for multitasking and maybe not enough to handle a proper game anymore.
I really have alot jailbreak tweaks installed...not winterboard not vwallpaper...

Is there a way to hunt down what tweak uses all this ram?

380MB is still a lot of RAM. Are you experiencing any slowdowns? Or are you just worried after looking at the number?

After a reboot with nothing opened up yet I have about 768mb on my i5.
One way to figure out what packages take up lots of resources is to start removing one, restarting and then check out the difference in available ram. And so on.
But if you got lots of stuff installed that can take a while.

Its knowing i can do less multitasking mostly.
I have 605mb free after a reboot.

I experience a slight slower startup of apps.

And is that ram with all your apps closed?

Fluctuating between ~20mb and ~700mb free RAM is normal.

RAM isn't like storage space in that it fills up and that is that. It changes dramatically and randomly depending on what you're doing at any given moment. By default iOS automatically kills backgrounded apps if more RAM is necessary for it to do something. Jailbreaking and installing jailbreak tweaks of course uses a bit more RAM than stock iOS would, but nothing that you really need to worry about (unless you have some sort of memory leak from a poorly coded tweak, which I really doubt). Don't let the free RAM meter scare you... it's easy to obsess over it. :)

iOS has very good memory management. If you aren't experiencing lag, don't worry about it.

For example, I have less than 20MB of RAM free, but I don't experience any lag, so it doesn't matter to me.

I'm having this problem too. I reset the phone at its normally mid 400's doesn't seem too bad?
Then if a few things are opened its 700-800. I've opened up about 15-20 apps and its 950. Is this normal? Seems a bit high and when I close out everything it stays around 760.
I have a ip5

this post makes no sense at all. you are somehow getting MORE ram from running MORE apps?

There is no reason to monitor ram.

Ios does this for us.

Just don't worry it.

I also used to obsess about it.

:)

This is my philosophy. It makes more sense for people with the 3GS or iPhone 4 to manage memory themselves. But for people who use a 4S or 5, you probably won't gain anything too drastic by managing memory yourself, unless of course you have a million tweaks installed from cydia. At least this is my opinion based off of personal experience. I hardly ever close apps lol. I do however close apps that are programmed to background or games that I'm done playing. Apps like these I quickly remove from the app switcher via springtomize's "start editing" mode. Other times I close apps is when I'm troubleshooting or if I'm cleaning up my phones junk files or when I occasionally do a hard reset. But on a day to day basis, I rarely close apps. My 4s runs solid and I get solid battery life too. Hardly any lag. It happens at times, but that's expected with a jailbroken device. And it's not nearly often enough or long enough where it bothers me. And a non-iPhone fanatic probably wouldn't even notice. But everyone has differing opinions. I like learning new stuff and hearing different views so I'm always open to change. This is just my opnion on the topic. I could very well be completely wrong lol. Good luck and have fun!

that is my used ram...

you can subtract that from the 1015 or whatever the iphone 5 has.

What program are you using to monitor the RAM used? You have to consider a chunk of that 1GB of RAM is used by the OS. I would say a good 200-300MB considering a reboot only gives you ~700-800MB of free RAM

iOS ram w no lag = no fuzz.
If you start getting laggy then remove as needed.

battery doctor pro

and i use iAssistant from the app store sometimes.

the normal system seems to use about 380-450 after a reboot. but it goes up using for a few hrs even after closing all apps to in the 700's

I've never agreed with this. Then again, I've never run an unjailbroken iPhone for more than 1 day, so I don't know how it works when running as stock.

I don't keep track of how often it happens...maybe once a day or so? But I'll go to do something such as start Siri and nothing will happen, so I think I didn't hold the home button long enough, so I try it again, but still nothing. I try it again and again, then about 1 minute later Siri will open, close, open, close as many times as I tried to open it. Then I'll try to check ram with SBSettings and it will take 30 or so seconds for the window to drop down and I'll be at 15MB to 30MB available ram. I then use SBSettings to kill apps and free ram. Siri will then work correctly again.

Well... If I'm using facebook a little (eg for 1-2mins fast scroll between multiple posts, load random photos) iOS is closing all my other opened apps! Even if I have more than 300MB free.
I thought that BatteryDoctorPro was the culprit.. Uninstalled and the same :(.
Is this iOS normal behaviour or a tweak?
This occurs on your iphones too?

Iphone 5 here. And no auto kill apps tweaks enabled..

What do you mean Facebook closes all your other opened apps?

iOS itself closes all opened apps, even if I have lot of free RAM (300+ MB)

Don't know why... Maybe it has to be something with facebook using more ram with every picture you view. But it's pitty..
Do you use facebook? Can you test it?
Eg: open Safari, Youtube, Calendar, Calculator. Now open facebook, scroll over few tens posts, click some random photos, 1 post link (if found) and after ~ 2 mins look at your app switcher (I set to dim closed apps via Springtomize 2). If you don't use Springtomize, choose for eg Youtube.. Did the app relaunch?

It's frustrated. It remembers me of Android's catastrophic memory management.. (I own also an Galaxy S2 with 1GB RAM)

I killed all apps and cleared the RAM, then I did as you described and switched to YouTube after a few minutes of surfing Facebook. I had over 400 (from about 680 after I cleared the RAM) MB left. Then I killed all apps, cleared the RAM, opened YouTube first, then I opened apps and games until it cleared RAM for the first time (it went from 90 to 234 as I opened Maps), by that time I had 33 apps open. I switched to YouTube, and it didn't relaunch.

I see... It's frustrating, guess I have to disable tweaks and retry, retry...

Thanks @hafr for takin your time to test!

I thought it was normal behavior. iOS doesn't fully multitask. I think.

Guys, use "top" to see how much memory a given process takes. It'll display process-specific data, NOT cumulative, unlike, say, SBSettings.

An example screenshot, where I've annotated the most memory-hungry processes (AppStore, ooTunes etc.)

Note that I don't know of a way of ordering by mem usage, unlike by CPU usage (top -u). The list at http://linux.about.com/od/commands/l/blcmdl1_top.htm is pretty much useless on iOS.
