Is there a way to fix this? It shows I'm on att in the upper left instead of the Vodafone I'm roaming on. My friends with non jailbroken iPhones don't have this issue.

Are you using some Cydia hack like Zeppelin, or another that modifies the carrier name or design of the carrier name ?
If so, remove it as it is overriding the current carrier info.
