I have an iPhone 5 that was jailbroken and I was wanting to undo and get into ios 7.
I had not gotten very far in the process at all (had not really done anything yet) and the phone shows the charge cable + itunes icon on it.

When I plug it into iTunes I get can not restore error 3194. I downloaded tiny umbrella and I get error 11 when doing that.
I can not get it out of this mode nor can I update it.

Any help or guidance?

it is going to the cydia page.

Can't get it in DFU mode from what I can see. OR it IS and itunes will not recover.

A restore is not possible while it directs to the Cydia page

Are you running OS X or Windows 7/XP?

nope :( restore did not work. I tried going to ios7 should I try 6?
Did 6 too. I get error 3194 unknown error.

Did you edit the hosts file properly?

It should look like

Code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
#       ::1             localhost

yes I edited the hosts file correctly.

When going there I get:

"This page is just a placeholder. To publish your site, place your HTML and image files in the data directory.

Be sure to name your main page "index.html" and it will become the default page for visitors."

Are you restoring iPhone to iOS 7.0.4 or have you been trying to go back to a previous version through shift + restore?

trying to go to IOs7 I have downloaded an ISPW of 7.04 as well.

Either doing the Shift click or letting iTunes update I get the same error.

iTunes shows the phone in "Recovery Mode"

iTunes shows the phone in "Recovery Mode"

Just click restore

lol please briefly explain this, why would it go to cydia and why can you not restore it when that happens

I don't know a lot of technical details, but when it's pointing to the Cydia servers it conflicts/blocks something to do with iTunes. Fixing the host file makes sure everything is going where it should.

To go in to DFU
connect USB
Hold both power and home until phone turns off
Hold both for 3 more seconds
Release power while keep holding home for 10 more seconds, screen will be black and itunes will say it found an iphone in recovery (it is in dfu though )

Trijethero thanks. I have been trying to put it in dfu mode and it said it was, but I guess not. I had not seen your method before (the timing deal) and I was also looking for some sort of confirmation that it was in dfu mode. It kept rebooting when I would download the iOS update. Now it seemed to work and update itself.
All is good thanks for the assist long time lurker here.
