I'm thinking of buying a used Iphone 5 or 5S to be used as an IPOD.

It will NOT BE CONNECTING to any network.

1. Will I still need a nano sim just to play Music? Please explain why if I need a sim.

2. Can I buy any Iphone 5 or 5s regardless of which network it was previously used on?

Again, I will NOT be using this phone to make any calls.

Thank you.

If you sync the iPhone to music in iTunes or the iPhone Finder app, it doesn’t have to connect to any network.
I believe the iPhone 5 maximum OS is iOS 10, so the only potential hazard is the Mac might not recognize it.

Just put it in Airplane mode and turn WiFi on. It'll be fine.

That's how I have my own iPhone 5 set up.

I just made a similar thread about an iPhone 4.

You certainly don't need a SIM card, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to actually pay money for the iPhone. I got mine for free, and if I wanted to buy something like this I'd probably go for an mp3 player.

If you use iTunes on your Windows machine fine, but I wouldn't recommend installing it as it's a disk space eater.

I'm looking for an alternative myself.
