Hi guys ,

This is my situation I bought a iPhone 5 from the bay last week to replace my broken iPhone 4. The ad quoted a cracked screen but factory unlocked. So I changed my screen and put the simcard in and it worked fine for 2 days.

The phone then ran out battery, once I charged it up the apple logo shows then it just reboots every 5 seconds.

So it got me thinking had the phone been jailbreaked and unlocked, maybe? I really don't know as I couldn't play on it much but there certainly wasn't cydia installed! So now I'm stick with a phone which won't turn on and iTunes won't restore I get errors when trying iOS 7.0.4 or 7.0.6 and I either get error 4193 or 9 when restoring too iOS 7.1.

I'd really like to get it fixed as I haven't had a phone for weeks now. By the way I have access to both PC and Mac.

I hope you can help. Thank you.

If it's jailbroken you can try putting it into safe mode by holding volume down when it's first booting up

Just to be clear, there is NO jailbreak + Unlock
The only unlock would be a factory unlock or a purchased third party or provider imei unlock.
What I'm saying is there would not have been any sort of software unlock for the phone

There's no kind of software unlock for the iPhone 5

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies. good to know it could be a hardware issue. Any common problems. I'm struggling to get it out of recovery mode at the moment. And with it continuously restarting its hard to enter DFU, any tips?

Also it happened when charging, could it be a battery problem?

Quick update. I got the phone into DFU and tried restoring with iOS 7.0.4, iOS 7.0.6 and iOS 7.1 - none of them worked I got the error number 9 each time. so im starting to think it could be hardware. Any one had similar issues?

You can ONLY restore to ios 7.1 Apple is no longer signing those other versions.
That is why you don't want to restore if you want it jailbroken

edit:
Since ios 7.1 also did not work, you need to try a new computer or cable.
Did you by chance go into settings and clicked reset all? kind of sounds that way

Cyber,

I dont need it jailbroken. Thats the least of my worrie. Just didnt know if it was or not. It wont restore using 7.1 still get error 9. Ive switched out the battery, changed cable and computer. Any other tips.

BTW i didnt click reset.

Are doing this on a win pc or mac?
It may help switching os platforms just for the restore.
Are you using the latest release of itunes, if not you should be with ios 7.1
Other then that if it still fails, i believe you have a hardware issue possibly.

Tried with a windows most recently will be trying with a Mac later today. Hopefully it will sort it out. If not and of is a hardware issue is there any common possibilities or would I be better off going to apple for a refurb?

get a refurb from apple if you can (assuming it is a hardware issue)
