I've updated my 5s to 9.3 and have used it for a day and had icloud backup done. Today I decided to do clean 9.3 install through DFU mode but itunes downgraded the iphone to 9.2.1 because apparently Apple pulled the 9.3 update for 5s. Now I can't restore my icloud backup because it requires iOS 9.3. (my last backups were done with 9.3). iPhone6,1_9.3_13E233_Restore.ipsw restore with itunes is not allowed either. So i'm stuck waiting for 9.3 to become available again.

If you really wanted to now, maybe you could update by installing 9.3 public beta and updating through there, if it's still available.

I tried this last nite but it didn't work. No beta build is available right now.

What exactly do you lose if you setup your phone as NEW? Just wondering why it's a "nightmare" considering your phone works.

Yeah. As Armen says, you can set up your phone as new and use it for a while.
Btw, new version of iOS 9.3 has released, with an updated build number. I would like to update to that build later today. You now can try to recover it to iOS 9.3 and restore from iCloud backup.

UPDATE: still no iOS 9.3 for older devices yet. My fault.

All my contacts, bookmarks etc. are on the backup and i can't restore them until 9.3 is up again. Right now I set it up as new and try to remember at least some contact numbers.

Those can be synced from iCloud.

So I may have missed this. Why did Apple pull the 9.3 update for older devices? I did an OTA update for my 5S and an old 4S on the day of release and both seem to be working fine. The pulling does explain why we couldn't update my wife's 5S though.

Edit: cancel that, I see now what's been going on.
