Check with iCloud how much free space your iCloud storage plan has left. And how much your iPhone is in size - and see if it fits in the free iCloud space to backup.

Backing up 64 GB iPhone used for 50%, to a 5GB iCloud storage, probably won't work (random example).

Have you tried updating to 9.0.2?

9.0 was apparently very buggy.

The problem started in 9.0 with the problem, Im currently in 9.0.2
Ah, sorry. No idea then. When you said you moved to 9.0 I assumed 9.0 not 9.0.2. So my thought was maybe updating would fix your problem.

I've got nothing beyond that.

This seems to be a known issue, my gf has the same issue on her 5S. She has plenty of iCloud Space and has also had the same issue on iOS 9 through to 9.0.2.

Hopefully 9.1 will fix the issue!

All of the 9.0 betas and even GM would not backup my 6 Plus to iCloud, despite having 4+ GB free. It would always error out. After updating to the 9.1 beta it's been working. Though I have noticed every time I update to a new beta it turns the backup photos/camera roll option back on. I keep that off because it will instantly fill up iCloud since I have a 64GB device and go through thousands of photos a month. After turning that back off it'll work again.

It definitely seems related to iOS 9.0.x in my case. I'm sure it's working somewhere for others, but not for me, nor my 4s when it was on 9.0. But it's gone now so I can't report on that.
