Hi. As the title stated, my iPhone 5s isn't responding to the charging cable properly. I tried many different cables and outlets, that previously worked without issue. Currently it's hooked up to my Macbook, and thankfully, charging I've got 100%. Last night though, couldn't charge it at all. It seems real finicky, like if I move it at all, it chimes and stops charging. I of course tried cleaning the inside of the lightning connector on the iPhone 5s, and blew it out as best I could.

Is this a common hardware issue fail? If it is possibly software, is there a full reset you recommend I do that may solve this problem? Something to try anyway? I'm switching wireless carriers and will likely have an iPhone 7 soon, but want to keep this viable until then. I realized last night how crippled I would be without a phone. Thank you for any replies.

If you are getting the chiming when you move the cable, then it's either a bad cable or a bad port. Is it finicky if you play with the cable on the computer end or the phone end? If the chiming occurs when you play with the phone end, I would suspect a defective or damaged Lightning Dock. This is a pretty typical failure and can be repaired DIY-style.

Wow, I didn't know it could be repaired DIY. I very likely won't attempt it, but will hope it just holds out long enough for me to order another phone and new service. Yeah, it's on the iPhone end, suggesting the dock. However, it also has this odd quality, this issue, that when I 'ping' the phone, it connects again. I mean do anything on it, without jostling it physically. So I'm not sure. Then earlier tonight I got the "This Accessory Not Supported" window, briefly, then it went back to charging. I don't think it's a cable, because I have a number of them, and they've all been working previously. Unless an iPhone can suddenly get fussy, inexplicably, about genuine Apple cables.

The iPhone is very fussy about cables...but mainly non-original/non MFi cables. Consider giving this phone a new lease on life. Fix it or sell/give it to someone who will instead of adding it to the already heaping landfill of electronic devices.

Agreed, I intend to either give it to a friend, or trade it in to Comcast. I've decided to go with the iPhone SE. I can use the same case; it costs less money. I just want this one to work until that point. I wonder if this is an issue with the cable. That's better, easier to fix.

Have you checked if the optimized charging option is enabled in battery settings? And perhaps your battery health just in case?
